Why English Language

English in the 21st century has evolved as the ‘Lingua franca’ in most parts of the world. The dominance of British Empire over a significant portion of the globe is responsible for the prominence of English language all over the world. Although the colonial days are long over, the importance English has managed to make it place in the regional culture and life.

English in today’s world is not just a language but a sole mode of global communication. There are approximately 380 million native English speakers in the world and people using this language as a second language or a foreign language is about 700 million. The advent of Internet has even more given a boost to the significance of English as the websites and mostly in English. According to the statistics, most of the scientific and technical periodicals in the world are in English. The technical data stored in the computers are also in English.

English is a language mostly used for official transactions like, for example, a business deal between a Middle Eastern country and any Asian country. Another most important reason behind the dominance of English language in the world is because of the fact most English speaking nations like USA and England are economic powers of the world. As in most of the first world countries English is used widely, there is a need of English for education and commerce.
