What is Immersion English Program

Language Immersion program is a scientific methodology of teaching second language or foreign language. This program, which made its emergence in the 1960’s, has within a few years proved its effectiveness thus becoming extremely popular. It is a communicative type of language training where all subjects are taught in only English language. The idea is to truly ‘immerse’ the students into an English environment.

Precisely, the characteristics of Language Immersion programs are the following.

Instructions given through foreign or second language.

100% of the subject taught or activities done are in the second language.

The tutors of the program have to be fully proficient in the language.

There are mainly two kinds of immersion program submersion or structures.

The main aim is to teach the students through direct contact with the language.

There are two kinds of language immersion programs. One is One Way (Foreign Language) Immersion Program and the other is Two- way (Dual Language) Immersion Program. The Dual language Immersion as the name suggests is where two languages are taught to the students at the same times and with one –way immersion stress in only on the foreign language, in this case English.
